The Motril City Council has established a special safety and traffic operation on its beaches for the upcoming solar eclipse on August 12th, anticipating a large influx of citizens.

The Citizen Security area of the Motril City Council has prepared a special operation due to the expected significant influx of citizens to the beaches of Motril and the Costa Tropical for the solar eclipse scheduled for this Wednesday, August 12th. The astronomical phenomenon will reach its peak at 8:37 PM.
Attendees are advised to plan their travel in advance to avoid congestion. To distribute the flow of people and traffic, alternative access routes are suggested via Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza avenue, Rambla de las Brujas, and the road to Playa Granada. The use of public transport is a priority option, especially during peak hours.
Usual and additional parking areas will be available, including spaces near the Restaurante Katena, the promenade in front of the campsite, opposite the Espeto beach bar and Hoyo-19, next to Villa Astrida, and in the Los Moriscos area. Additionally, a new parking zone will be set up at the beginning of Playa Granada, near the golf practice range. Please respect signage and traffic officers' instructions to avoid obstructing circulation or emergency vehicle access.
Regarding safety during eclipse observation, the Citizen Security area reminds the public of the importance of protecting vision. Looking directly at the Sun without adequate eye protection, such as specific eclipse glasses that meet safety standards, is strongly discouraged. Conventional sunglasses are not sufficient. Cameras, binoculars, or telescopes should not be used without appropriate solar filters.
Special emphasis is placed on caution with minors, who should not observe the phenomenon without adult supervision and protective equipment. Attention should be paid to children and the elderly in crowded areas, and instructions from the Local Police, Civil Protection, lifeguards, and emergency services must be followed. In case of any incident, crowds should be avoided, and emergency services should be granted passage.
The security operation will be reinforced with an increased presence of Local Police officers in the beach area. Lifeguard services will be available until 9:30 PM, and Civil Protection personnel will be deployed along the coastline for broader coverage.
The Motril City Council calls for citizen responsibility, urging people to plan their trips, use public transport, and follow the guidance of security and emergency services to enjoy the eclipse safely.
