The Paseo de Cotobro, one of the busiest areas in Almuñécar, has completed its refurbishment aimed at modernizing the zone. The project, fully funded by the Granada Provincial Council with an investment of 245,829.69 euros, prioritized improvements in safety, accessibility, and the promenade's urban image.
The works involved demolishing the existing cobblestone pavement and replacing it with hydraulic tiles, rehabilitating the retaining wall, and installing a new public lighting system using LED technology. The intervention covered a stretch of approximately 600 meters in length and between 2.5 and 3 meters in width.
Key improvements include the installation of 1,680 square meters of white and blue hydraulic tiles, cladding 431 square meters of the wall with irregular natural stone, and laying 600 linear meters of white coping stones. Additionally, new channels and inspection chambers for public lighting were executed, 16 new nine-meter-high LED lampposts were installed, and the area's vertical signage was updated.
The president of the Granada Provincial Council, Francis Rodríguez, along with the mayor of Almuñécar, Juanjo Ruiz Joya, visited the promenade to officially receive the completed conservation and pavement improvement works. Rodríguez emphasized the provincial institution's commitment to the province's municipalities, stating, "Investing in quality infrastructure is investing in well-being, safety, and opportunities for our towns."
Rodríguez also highlighted that the intervention results in a promenade that is "more accessible, safer, and more energy-efficient," contributing to reinforcing Almuñécar's tourist image. For his part, Ruiz Joya underscored the focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, exemplified by the new LED lighting, and concluded that efforts are being made to offer "a better image of Almuñécar," making the destination "more attractive, competitive, and aligned with the quality our municipality deserves."
This project is one of several underway in the municipality, including the ongoing remodeling of the Paseo de la Caletilla, which began on April 13th with an estimated ten-month completion period.
