Dozens of vehicles await relocation in Motril to Nador ferry

The migratory crisis in Ceuta and the closure of the Melilla border prevent the passage of non-Spanish or non-resident travelers, causing uncertainty at the Port of Motril.

Around twenty vehicles are waiting at the Port of Motril to be relocated to a ferry bound for Nador, after being denied access to the Melilla route due to border closure.

About twenty vehicles, along with their occupants, continue to wait at the Port of Motril to be transferred by ferry to Nador. The ferry's departure is scheduled for this afternoon, after they were denied access to the ferry heading to Melilla just before midnight. This situation stems from the migratory crisis in Ceuta and the subsequent closure of the border crossing between Melilla and the Moroccan city of Beni Enzar, which prevents travelers arriving in Melilla from Andalusian ports with destinations in other parts of Morocco from continuing their journey.
According to estimates from the Port Authority, 930 passengers and 240 vehicles were expected before the restriction. During boarding, many passengers learned they could not continue their journey unless they held Spanish nationality, could prove residency in Melilla, or were visiting resident family members there. This measure aims to prevent further saturation given the border closure, which has left numerous families waiting to proceed with their travel.
Sources from the Guardia Civil confirmed that due to the closure of the border between Melilla and Morocco, a boarding restriction was imposed for individuals who could not prove residency in Melilla, Spanish nationality, or a visit to family members in the autonomous city. Officers from the Benemérita are present at the Granada dock to prevent incidents.
The Government Sub-delegation in Granada informed the affected individuals that the border with Morocco via Melilla was closed and that the Melilla port could not accommodate more vehicles. The shipping company offered passengers the option to exchange their tickets for overnight departures from Algeciras or Tarifa.
Out of approximately 200 affected vehicles, about 20 remain at the Port of Motril and can be relocated to the ship bound for Nador departing today. Sources from the Government Sub-delegation in Granada indicated that this operation will continue as long as the border with Morocco via Melilla remains closed and the Melilla port cannot accommodate more vehicles.
