“"There is a lack of basic conservation in planters, facades, and paving. It is a clear example of an administration that allocates millions for electoral works, while basic maintenance is lacking in public spaces like Altillo and Peñón del Santo."
Criticism of Municipal Investment in Almuñécar for Prioritizing Aesthetics over Maintenance

The opposition in Almuñécar has expressed its dissatisfaction with the local government's investment policy, pointing to an imbalance between spending on aesthetic projects and the lack of maintenance in essential public areas.
The socialists of Almuñécar have challenged the investment strategy of the municipal government, led by the Popular Party. The controversy arises from the allocation of 1.8 million euros for the aesthetic renovation of La Caletilla, a project focused on changing paving and lighting for "beautification" purposes.
This investment, according to the opposition, contrasts with the state of deterioration in adjacent and highly frequented areas, such as the Altillo promenade and Peñón del Santo. These locations, considered key for residents' and visitors' leisure and recreation, show chronic neglect just before the start of the tourist season.
The opposition has described this situation as the "B-side of the government's management," extending their criticism to other infrastructures and public spaces that, they claim, are also neglected. These include the bus station, the Puente de Noy necropolis, the Majuelo park, the Casa de la Cultura, and the socio-cultural centers in the neighborhoods.
From the socialist party, it is argued that local policy should prioritize territorial balance in investments. They suggest that the 1.8 million euros allocated to La Caletilla could have been used for a comprehensive shock plan for the maintenance and improvement of multiple spaces and neighborhoods in the municipality, instead of concentrating on a single point for what they consider purely cosmetic and electoral purposes.
