The Marina del Este sports marina hosted the presentation of the beach cleaning service in Almuñécar, a task considered essential for environmental care and the protection of the sea on the Costa Tropical.
The mayor of Almuñécar, Juan José Ruiz Joya, and the Councilor for Environment and Beaches, Lucía González, accompanied by the head of the cleaning boats, José Luis Pulido, presented the device that will operate during July and August. This service, operational since 2019, will daily cover the coastline between Barranco de Enmedio and Cantarriján to remove plastics, plant debris, and other floating waste from the sea surface before it reaches the shore.
Mayor Ruiz Joya highlighted the constant year-round effort to care for the coastline, stating that thanks to this daily work, Almuñécar is prepared to welcome visitors with a clean and safe coastline.
Lucía González recalled that this service is part of the integrated coastal management model, awarded the Escoba de Platino (Platinum Broom), and contributes to Almuñécar being the Granada municipality with the most Blue Flags and quality certifications.
During the summer of 2025, the two boats removed nearly 3,000 kilograms of floating waste. The service will operate daily between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM, complementing the City Council's special beach deployment, which includes sand cleaning, lifeguard services, nautical channels, and coastal surveillance drones.
