The event, which began at 9:30 AM, attracted a large crowd of locals and visitors eager to witness the art of butchering this fish. The tuna, caught the previous dawn off the coast of Málaga, was sold out within hours, following a pre-established waiting list managed by Pescados y Mariscos Failla, the organizers of the exhibition.
For many attendees, like Carmen, a tourist from Seville vacationing in the municipality, the experience was a pleasant surprise. "We didn't hesitate," she commented, after learning about the event at the municipal market, which she had visited before.
The 'ronqueo', named after the characteristic sound of the knife against the fish's backbone, has become a significant attraction for gastronomy enthusiasts and industry professionals. Children and adults waited expectantly around the work area, observing the procedure.
Councilman for Agriculture and Health, Carlos Ferrón, highlighted the day's success, stating that expectations were surpassed. He explained that attendees were informed about the different parts of the red tuna and the butchering process. "The municipal market already had a whirlwind of people from that early hour," he noted.
Ferrón also acknowledged the public's strong interest in purchasing the fresh product, which facilitated its rapid sale. The City Council plans to continue promoting such activities and announced a similar initiative focused on promoting mangoes during their season.
