This municipal initiative, which assumes powers typically outside its jurisdiction after obtaining authorization from the Junta de Andalucía, seeks to provide concrete solutions to urgent needs of the local population. The mayor of Almuñécar has emphasized the council's commitment to addressing issues directly affecting citizens.
“"Helping farmers affected by a fire or subsidizing youth rent are not typical responsibilities of the City Council, but when there is a real need, we work to find solutions."
One of the aid lines, totaling 100,000 euros, will focus on mitigating the damage caused by the August 2024 fire in the Peña Escrita area. This incident affected nearly 600 hectares, including approximately 160 hectares of subtropical crops, causing significant damage to irrigation systems, trees, and agricultural operations.
Subsidies for farmers will cover the repair of irrigation systems, pruning of damaged trees, and replanting, with a limit of 3,000 euros per hectare and a maximum of 10,000 euros per beneficiary. The mayor stressed the importance of not abandoning families still recovering from their losses.
The second aid line, with a budget of 300,000 euros, is designed to facilitate access to housing for young people registered in Almuñécar, amidst increasing difficulties in finding affordable rentals. These aids can reach up to 200 euros per month, with a maximum of 2,400 euros annually per beneficiary, aiming to enable young people to build their lives in the municipality.
Both calls for applications will be approved shortly by the Local Government Board and published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada, after which the application period will open. Applications can be submitted both in person at the General Registry and through the municipal electronic office. The municipal official has urged citizens to monitor official City Council channels to ensure a transparent and efficient process.
