The Parks and Gardens Department of the Mijas Town Council has achieved a remarkable increase in tree planting across the municipality. Since the start of the year, over 540 units have been planted, representing a fourfold increase in activity compared to the previous year. When combined with the plantings carried out in 2025, the total number of trees planted throughout the municipal area exceeds 1,100 specimens.
This initiative's primary goal is to expand the tree mass and green areas within the municipality. Additionally, it seeks to replace trees that were felled by strong winds during winter storms, as well as palm trees affected by the fusarium fungus.
Planting efforts are being conducted across the three main urban centers of Mijas: Mijas Pueblo, La Cala, and Las Lagunas. Among the areas benefiting from these actions are Las Cordobesas, Campo Mijas, La Buganvilla, El Chaparral, the hippodrome, El Albero, Calahonda, Jardín Inglés, the Senda Litoral, the southern road, El Cañón, La Alquería, Valtocado, El Coto, and Los Arenales.
The diverse species selected for these plantings, cultivated in the municipal nursery, include carob trees, wild olive trees, cork oaks, lemon trees, plane trees, pines, palm trees, holm oaks, loquat trees, dwarf fan palms, orange trees, ficus, hackberry trees, fig trees, oleanders, and cypresses.
