The two proposed locations are a plot in the Lagar Martell area, in La Cala, and another in the vicinity of Avenida de Andalucía, in Las Lagunas. The decision was made at the Local Security Board meeting, chaired by the mayor, Ana Mata, and the Local Police councilor, Juan Carlos Cuevas.
During the meeting, the new captain commander of the Mijas Civil Guard post, José Mulero, was introduced, accompanied by Lieutenant Alberto Reyes. Representatives from the Local Police, National Police, the Government Sub-delegation in Málaga, political groups, and the municipal Youth delegation also attended.
Mayor Ana Mata emphasized that this proposal continues the historical demand for a greater Civil Guard presence, "more necessary than ever due to the growth of a population that already has about 100,000 registered residents, and many more de facto residents".
For his part, councilor Juan Carlos Cuevas expressed confidence that the most suitable location would be chosen soon, and recalled that Mijas is the third most populous municipality in the province of Málaga, having tripled its population in three decades. He stressed the importance of reinforcing the Civil Guard staff to guarantee the security that residents deserve.
Municipal plot 357 in Lagar Martell (La Cala) is considered ideal due to its size (7,654.52 m²) and buildability (7,854 m²), designated for social facilities. The plot in Las Lagunas, next to the Diversity roundabout, is pending urban development.
Additionally, the City Council proposes evaluating the possibility of establishing an Immigration Office and National Police ID issuance office on the same plot, to meet the administrative demand from the municipality's national and international population and alleviate pressure on the facilities in Fuengirola and Marbella.
Other topics discussed at the meeting included the renewal of the Viogen System, access to the SIGO Mobility system, planning for events and activities, and a report on bullying and cyberbullying situations.
