The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, presided over the opening of the parking lot, emphasizing its importance for the Las Lagunas area. The new infrastructure, with an investment of 15.7 million euros, aims to solve the parking problem in a consolidated and popular urban zone.
The facility offers a total of 272 spaces distributed across four underground levels. Of these, 200 are designated for residents, selected through a public lottery, while the remainder operate on a rotational basis. The design also includes reserved spots for people with disabilities and electric vehicles.
Thanks to a reorganization of spaces, 38 additional spots have been created beyond the initially planned number, representing a significant improvement for Las Lagunas. The parking lot occupies the underground area of La Cala, Mijas, and Los Olivos squares, connecting these areas via San Matías street.
The project includes vehicle entry and exit ramps from San Jorge street and Mijas square, located on the central median. Additionally, there are two pedestrian access points equipped with stairs and elevators, ensuring universal accessibility and the removal of architectural barriers.
The mayor reaffirmed the municipal government's commitment to continue working on infrastructure that improves citizens' quality of life, stating that every project aims to make Mijas a better municipality to live in.
