During the 'Encounter for Tourism in Almonte: Our Roots. Our Legacy. Almonte Identity', held for World Tourism Day, the Mancomunidad's role in the economic and tourist projection of the region was highlighted. Challenges such as de-seasonality and enhancing natural and cultural resources were addressed.
Adrián Moreno Esquivel, manager of the Mancomunidad and the Wine Route, emphasized the investments made through the Sustainable Tourism Destinations Plans (PSTD) in Matalascañas and the surroundings of the National Park. These plans aim to diversify offerings and combat seasonality.
Advances in the Condado de Huelva Wine Route and its integration into the Rutas del Vino de España Product Club were highlighted. This distinction, complementing the European recognition as 'Project of the Month 2026', consolidates the strategy to transform wine heritage into a top-tier tourist product.
Beyond promotion, the debate focused on the profitability of the primary sector and landscape conservation. Moreno stressed that wine tourism must benefit the farmers who maintain the land. "The ultimate goal is to conserve an ancestral, traditional, and sustainable crop with the environment and Doñana National Park. However, unless a hectare of vineyard is profitable for the farmer who works it year-round, we will not achieve our objective. All administrations must work together to add value to the product and ensure its social and economic sustainability," he stated.
The meeting, inaugurated by Almonte's Tourism Councilor, Antonia Rocío Pérez, brought together representatives from the hotel and restaurant sectors, ecotourism, and entities like the Hermandad Matriz and the University of Huelva, strengthening the public-private alliance for the Condado's tourist identity.
