This decision stems from the rupture of sanitation pipes near the mouth of the Guadalhorce river. The river's swelling, caused by heavy rains late last year, led to the breakage of two conduits in Málaga's sanitation network, connecting Guadalmar to the Guadalhorce Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The force of the water swept away the supports of the structure holding the pipes, resulting in a 50-meter section breaking. This incident had previously forced the closure of the nearby Arraijanal beach.
The municipal water company has awarded the reconstruction works for the pipes between Guadalmar and the Guadalhorce treatment plant. The project, budgeted at 1.8 million euros, has a four-month execution period.
While the definitive repairs are underway, a provisional solution has been implemented. This involves constructing a section of the regenerated water network, initially intended for irrigation in the western area of Málaga and Torremolinos, which will be temporarily used in reverse to transport water to the treatment plant.
The Torremolinos City Council will continue to conduct periodic checks and will allow swimming again once the analysis results confirm there is no health risk to bathers.
