The municipality of Mijas will implement a significant improvement in its Infant and Primary Education centers by installing covers on the outdoor sports courts. This initiative, driven by the City Council, aims not only to optimize the use of these facilities outside of school hours but also to enhance thermal conditions for all citizens, including students and the general public.
The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, has formalized an agreement with the Territorial Delegation of Education of the Junta de Andalucía, represented by Miguel Briones. This agreement underscores the commitment to greater integration of municipal educational centers into the social life of the town, facilitating their use for sports, cultural, and social activities of municipal interest.
The new covers will be integrated into the schools and will be permanently available, both for outdoor educational activities and for events organized by the council during afternoons, holidays, and weekends. This measure addresses the need to mitigate adverse weather conditions, especially intense heat at the beginning and end of the school year.
The schools benefiting from this action include Tamixa, Los Campanales, El Chaparral, Las Cañadas, El Olmo, El Albero, María Zambrano, Nuestras Señora Virgen de la Peña, San Sebastián, Indira Gandhi, and Jardín Botánico, in addition to the Los Claveles nursery school.
The process will begin with the drafting of technical projects by the Mijas City Council, which must be authorized by the Junta de Andalucía. Subsequently, the projects for the different educational centers will be put out to tender, adapting to their specific characteristics. This initiative is supported by current legislation, such as the Law on Bases of Local Regime and the Andalusian Sports Law, which empower municipalities with over 20,000 inhabitants like Mijas to construct and manage sports facilities.
