Maintenance and repair work on Mijas's schools is intensifying ahead of the upcoming academic year. A team of twenty municipal workers dedicates their daily efforts to ensure educational facilities are in optimal condition, taking advantage of the summer vacation period.
The tasks cover a wide range of activities, including painting, plumbing, lighting, cleaning, repair of breakdowns, and replacement of deteriorated materials. These works are carried out entirely with the City Council's own resources, assigned to the Education Department, although coordination with the Energy and Occupational Risk Prevention services also takes place for specific interventions such as elevators or fire extinguishers.
The mayor of Mijas, Ana Mata, recently visited the El Chaparral center in La Cala to oversee the works. During the visit, accompanied by the Education councilor, Juan José Torres, the main interventions detailed included: painting classrooms, libraries, offices, hallways, and exteriors; inspection and repair of faults in sockets, lights, windows, doors, blinds, and bathrooms; cleaning of drains; disinfection of water tanks; thorough cleaning of patios and outdoor areas; inspection of fire extinguishers; repair of awnings and tiling; plumbing and lighting work; and clearing of undergrowth and pruning of trees around the schools.
In addition to general tasks, specific interventions are being carried out in four centers with more urgent needs. At the CEIP Virgen de la Peña, the infant education patio and the kitchen, bathroom, and dining room sanitation pipes are being repaired. The CEIP Las Cañadas is having its windows repaired and some elements replaced, such as the sills of all 40 windows, and walls and fences are being painted. Meanwhile, at the CEIP San Sebastián, fences are being installed to prevent vandalism, and at the CEIP Jardín Botánico, the perimeter fence of the infant education area is being repaired.
All these tasks are being executed in compliance with current legal regulations regarding the responsibilities of Local Administration in educational matters.
