The initiative, previously announced by the mayor and a Health representative, seeks to raise awareness among families about the importance of appropriate screen time for young children. The campaign has now been extended directly to schools, being presented to the heads of local nurseries.
Under the name 'Screen-Free Kids', this awareness campaign is based on a series of videos where healthcare professionals explain the detrimental effects of improper mobile device use in young children. The educational centers Gloria Fuertes, Mijas Pueblo, Europa, and La Cala Limonar have already received this information.
The campaign includes a series of informative capsules broadcast through Mijas Comunicación, featuring a total of ten thematic videos. In addition to audiovisual content, printed materials will be distributed in health centers, educational institutions, social services, and municipal offices.
This initiative is integrated into a working group comprising representatives from Health, Youth, Education, and the Costa del Sol Primary Care District, along with the Andalusian Health Service through the La Cala and Las Lagunas Health Centers, and the municipal company Mijas Comunicación.
As a complementary activity, a round table will be held at Mijas Comunicación, where experts will discuss the topic and aim to increase awareness of the risks that screen exposure poses to babies and children within families and the general population. The campaign is available for viewing and download on the official websites of the city council and the local communication company.
