The Local Police Department of Mijas has unveiled a new accident investigation vehicle. This unit will enable officers to carry out investigations, take statements, and complete numerous tasks directly at the scene of an incident, eliminating the need to return to police headquarters.
The councilor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas, emphasized that this tool will allow officers "to perform practically all necessary tasks without leaving the intervention site." This enhancement aims to reduce travel, shorten processing times, and ensure officers remain deployed where they are most needed.
The vehicle is equipped as a mobile office, featuring a workspace with a desk, stations for officers and declarants, a laptop, printer, specific lighting, autonomous power supply, and the necessary equipment to process actions on the ground.
Cuevas explained that the operational gain is "enormous," as officers can now attend to citizens, collect testimonies, consult information, prepare documentation, and print reports directly from the scene of the events, thereby providing a faster and more effective response.
This unit can be utilized for traffic accidents, police checks, preventive operations, large-scale events, emergencies, and situations requiring prolonged presence. By centralizing intervention management at the scene, it prevents officers from having to leave to complete procedures that previously required a trip to municipal facilities.
The councilor stressed that reinforcing the police force's material resources directly impacts safety and service quality. "For every resource we add, we facilitate their work, improve their response capacity, and allow them to spend more time on the streets, protecting and serving our residents," he stated.
In addition to the space for investigations and citizen assistance, the unit includes an organized storage area for quickly accessing and transporting the necessary police equipment during interventions.
The new vehicle is equipped with digital communication and GPS tracking systems, interior and exterior recording cameras with real-time transmission capabilities, luminous and acoustic signaling, an information panel, and equipment for road marking, traffic regulation, extrication, firefighting, and initial emergency response.
Cuevas concluded by highlighting that "well-trained Local Police also need modern tools adapted to the daily challenges they face," adding that the new vehicle "will improve the working conditions of our officers and, most importantly, the service received by citizens."
This acquisition is part of the Local Police Department's ongoing efforts to strengthen and modernize the force's resources, which has included the addition of new motorcycles, the reactivation of the Cycling Unit, and the progressive improvement of officers' equipment.
