The event, taking place at the Torreón square in Cala de Mijas, coincides with World Environment Day celebrations. It is driven by the Aula del Mar Mediterráneo Foundation (FAMM), with support from the Unicaja Foundation and collaboration from the Junta de Andalucía's Ministry of Sustainability and Environment, and the Mijas City Council.
The festival aims to connect society with the knowledge and care of marine meadows, which are key ecosystems for ocean health. These meadows provide oxygen, improve water quality, act as CO2 sinks, host great biodiversity, protect the coast from storms, and maintain ecological balance.
The initiative combines environmental education, scientific outreach, research, and citizen participation. In the morning, a guided tour of the beach and another with snorkeling in Calahonda will be offered to observe the biodiversity and conservation status of the marine meadow, upon prior registration.
During the afternoon, attendees can enjoy laboratory experiences, environmental education workshops, poetry, research projects, children's theater, virtual reality glasses, a photography exhibition, micro-talks, face painting, local crafts, and a closing concert.
The Pradera Marina Viva Festival seeks to transform leisure into a tool for environmental awareness, promoting collective commitment to marine conservation and reinforcing the role of local entities in protecting their ecosystems.
