The Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental and the company Urbaser have officially unveiled three new collection trucks that will join the selective waste collection service for paper-cardboard and packaging. This addition is part of the new contract awarded to the company and represents a significant step forward in efficiency, environmental sustainability, and the quality of public collection services throughout the Costa del Sol.
The vehicles, designed for urban environments, are side-loading compacting trucks. They feature a dualized diesel-LPG hybrid engine system, which substantially reduces polluting emissions. Furthermore, their design minimizes noise levels during operation, a crucial aspect for urban living.
These trucks are equipped with an automated collection system for containers up to 3,200 liters, optimizing work times and improving operational safety. With a payload capacity of 18,762 kg and a maximum authorized mass of 26,000 kg, they offer high operational capacity for selective collection services.
“"This commitment reinforces our joint dedication to modernizing selective collection services, protecting the environment, and improving the quality of life for citizens."
The arrival of these trucks was much needed, as in recent months, side-loading containers had been implemented without adequate means for their collection, which hindered the service in certain areas. From now on, not only will operational capacity be improved, but with the new Mancomunidad contract, collection frequencies will also increase, which will be particularly noticeable in urban centers and scattered areas.
The vehicles incorporate weighing systems that will allow for a better understanding of recycling habits by zone, adjusting routes, and reinforcing service where necessary. Emphasis was placed on the importance of neighborhood involvement, stressing that service improvement also depends on the correct use of containers, especially for cardboard, which should be folded to maximize available capacity.
The president of the Mancomunidad highlighted the high recycling rates recorded in Mijas, with a 14% increase. This progress is attributed to citizen collaboration and the systems implemented by the City Council and the Mancomunidad, such as this new fleet of trucks that contributes to reducing the carbon footprint on the Costa del Sol.
