Overflowing trash cans on a street in Marbella at night, with police lights reflecting on the wet pavement.

Disposing of trash outside the permitted hours has become the most frequent offense detected by the Local Police of Marbella, particularly affecting tourist and central areas.

Non-compliance with the established schedule for trash disposal is the most sanctioned citizen practice by the Local Police of Marbella in the first half of 2026. According to data from the City Council, three out of every four infractions detected regarding street cleaning and waste management were related to this habit.
Between January and June 2026, officers processed a total of 357 infraction reports. Of these, 270 were specifically due to disposing of waste outside the time frame set by the municipal ordinance. The remaining sanctions included 25 reports for depositing waste in unauthorized locations, ten for tampering with containers, and 52 for other cleaning-related offenses.
Police spokesperson Miguel Ángel Benítez stated that "non-compliance with the schedule for depositing trash continues to be the most frequent offense." These practices are particularly concentrated in areas with high tourist traffic and central zones of Marbella, such as Camilo José Cela and Antonio Belón avenues, the Virgen del Carmen marina, or the vicinity of El Faro. In San Pedro Alcántara, the most affected areas include Oriental, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, Julio Iglesias, and Lope de Mena avenues, Pepe Osorio street, Mariano Díaz Alonso square, and the industrial estate.
The municipal ordinance stipulates that household waste must be deposited between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM from April to October, and between 7:00 PM and 11:00 PM for the rest of the year. Glass has a restricted schedule between 10:00 PM and 8:00 AM, while selectively collected waste can be deposited without time limitation as long as it does not cause inconvenience to residents.
Failure to comply with these schedules is considered a minor offense, with penalties that can reach up to 900 euros. Fines for uncontrolled substance dumping can range from 45,000 euros (serious infractions) to 1.7 million euros (very serious infractions). Additionally, failure to collect pet excrement on public roads is classified as a minor offense, punishable by a warning or fines of up to 750 euros.
In 2025, the Marbella Local Police processed a total of 839 cases related to cleaning infractions, highlighting the persistence of these issues in urban waste management.
