The service, tendered for the first time for two full seasons, aims to ensure greater operational stability and resource optimization. Despite increased costs in CPI, fuel, and maintenance, the Mancomunidad will absorb the extra expenses without passing them on to the beneficiary municipalities.
The estimated value of the contract amounts to nearly 1,400,000 euros, of which the municipalities will contribute 40%. The coastline of Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella, Estepona, Casares, and Manilva will benefit from this initiative.
The work will take place from June 1st to August 31st, with vessels operational seven days a week. The service will include a total of 15 vessels: 4 for offshore operations, working up to 6 nautical miles out to sea to collect floating debris and absorb hydrocarbons, and 11 for beach operations, dedicated to directly collecting waste in bathing areas and coves.
Special attention will be paid to water analysis, particularly near submarine outfalls, with the goal of establishing strategies and techniques to ensure the highest possible quality. The mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, highlighted the importance of conserving the municipality's coastline, describing it as "exceptional" and a "shared responsibility".
The vice-president of the Mancomunidad, José Antonio Mena, stated that this service is a "strategic tool" for maintaining the excellence of the coastline, ensuring environmental quality, the experience of bathers, and the destination's tourism competitiveness.
