The Department of Operational Services of the Mijas City Council has reported on the improvement works being carried out at the Casa de la Cultura de Las Lagunas. These tasks, also undertaken at the Cultural Center of La Cala, focus on painting the facade and roof, which had not been addressed for eight years, aiming to present a renewed image of the building.
Inside, various rooms have been painted, and maintenance tasks, highly requested by students and teachers, have been completed. As the House of Culture is a main center for the UP (Popular University), these improvements have been scheduled during the summer break when classes are not in session.
The works, which began three weeks ago, are expected to conclude this week, according to the Councilor for Operational Services, Daniel Gómez. Subsequently, maintenance efforts will move to Mijas Pueblo.
Silvia Marín, councilor for the UP, emphasized the importance of keeping the centers in perfect condition, noting that they serve approximately 4,000 users. Additionally, a thorough cleaning is being conducted, and water leaks are being repaired.
Registration for non-residents will open at the end of August, although Marín mentioned that enrollment is nearly full due to high demand, which she described as good news.
