The intervention covers the square and the streets Fuerzas Armadas and Calle Independencia, in the town center, home to the Peña Flamenca. The current paving, described as worn out and with mixed surfaces, will be replaced with natural stone throughout the site.
Underground works will completely renew the water supply and sewage networks, adding a new drainage system for wastewater and rainwater run-off. Above ground, the square will feature new ornamental fountains, accessibility ramps for people with reduced mobility, and a children's play area.
The project also includes improvements to green spaces and planting, the installation of new scenic lighting around the fountains and gardens, and new street furniture. Extra waterproofing will be added around the Peña Flamenca premises and against neighboring buildings to prevent dampness.
The design has incorporated suggestions from residents and homeowners' associations. This initiative is part of the municipal strategy 'Estepona, Garden of the Costa del Sol', aimed at modernizing public spaces.
The council has not provided a completion date or a specific budget for this work, but it is part of a wider, multi-million euro plan to modernize districts and neighborhoods, funded by the council's record 2024 budget surplus.
