The Estepona City Council has officially inaugurated the renovation works of the Plaza Manuel Requena ‘Melilla’. The project, which involved an investment of approximately 395,000 euros, aims to enhance and make this space available for citizens.
According to the Council, the square, which was in an obsolete state, has been transformed into a new civic and leisure space. It now features new play areas for children, rest areas, and a more modern environment with shade and gardens.
The intervention included the complete replacement of paving, sanitation and water supply networks, as well as the installation of a new fountain and a modernized lighting system.
These works are part of the municipal plan to adapt traditional neighborhoods to current resident demands. The square joins other recent projects in the area, such as the surface plaza next to the El Carmen car park.
The underground car park at El Carmen, whose exterior urbanization and structure works have concluded, is expected to open during the summer once all necessary permits are obtained. Surrounding streets, such as Manuel Navarro Mollor, Padre Fernando, and Guadiaro, have also been paved.
Through these actions, the City Council aims to significantly improve the image and functionality of this urban center enclave, offering citizens a new public square while maintaining vehicular traffic.
