The Mijas City Council will cease direct responsibility for the management and access control of the La Cala waste disposal site. This service will now be entirely managed by the concessionary company awarded by the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Costa del Sol Occidental.
According to Eloy Belmonte, Councilor for Street Cleaning in the Mijas City Council, the regulations regarding the types and quantities of permitted waste will initially remain the same. However, the Commonwealth will be responsible for establishing and overseeing these conditions.
Belmonte positively assessed the initiative, stating it will "modernize and strengthen service control," leading to "improved daily management" and "more appropriate use of the facilities." The new systems are expected to provide "greater traceability and control over access and deposited waste."
The new management company will soon provide contact channels for inquiries and issues, which will be displayed on informational signage at the waste disposal site itself.
This new management model will bring improvements to the waste disposal sites and new control systems to ensure they are used in accordance with regulations.
Manuel Cardeña, president of the Commonwealth of Municipalities of Costa del Sol Occidental, emphasized that the facilities will meet various technical requirements, including surveillance systems, perimeter fencing, and specific signage. The comprehensive management contract has been awarded for a five-year period, aiming to enhance control over the use of these facilities throughout the Costa del Sol Occidental.
