Technicians from the Public Hydraulic Domain Service of the Provincial Delegation of Sustainability and Environment of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga met with the mayor of Casares, Juan Luis Villalón, and council members Noelia Rodríguez and José Cervera to plan the execution of the conditioning works for the Guadiaro River's course through the municipality. Representatives from the San Martín del Tesorillo City Council also participated in the meeting.
The main objective of these works is to improve the river's hydraulic capacity, reduce flood risk, and promote the conservation of the riverbed. The project, with a twelve-month execution period, focuses on removing accumulated sediment and vegetation from strategic points, such as the area around the Guadiaro River bridge.
The mayor of Casares emphasized the importance of defining a clearer and more stable riverbed, proposing the construction of retaining slopes in necessary areas to ensure the river's proper hydraulic behavior during heavy rainfall. The need to address existing undergrowth near the bridge to enhance safety and drainage capacity was also discussed.
The Casares City Council will continue its collaboration with the Junta de Andalucía throughout the development of the works. The aim is to continuously monitor the project and communicate on-site needs, ensuring that this significant investment reinforces the municipality's safety against future river floods.
