The election of Ana Mata signifies a new chapter in Mijas' local politics. The newly appointed president has expressed her firm commitment to continue the transformation and consolidation of the town as the third most important city in the province of Málaga.
The IX Local Congress of the Popular Party of Mijas, held at the Ilunion Hacienda de Mijas hotel, gathered over 300 attendees. This appointment concludes the management of the caretaker committee, previously chaired by Félix Romero, and ushers in a new era to strengthen the party and its governance capabilities in the municipality.
Among the notable attendees were Elías Bendodo, Deputy Secretary for Regional and Local Policy of the national PP; Patricia Navarro, president of the PP of Málaga; and several mayors from the region including Natacha Rivas (Algarrobo), Ana Mula (Fuengirola), Margarita del Cid (Torremolinos), and María Paz Fernández (Ronda), as well as the mayor of Benalmádena, Juan Antonio Lara, and Andalusian parliamentarian Esperanza Oña.
The vote, conducted by a show of hands, was preceded by a round table discussion featuring the four aforementioned mayors. Following her election, Mata announced the composition of her executive board, naming Mario Bravo as vice-president and Daniel Gómez Teruel as secretary general.
Mata emphasized the privilege of working for the citizens of Mijas, highlighting the municipality's potential to “break molds” and become a more prosperous area, with increased employment and investment attraction. She stressed the diversity and appeal of Mijas, despite having been “held back by a lack of vision and political infighting” in the past.
The new president of the PP of Mijas championed the management capabilities of the Popular Party, citing the work of Juanma Moreno at the head of the Junta de Andalucía as an example. She asserted that the PP guarantees progress, economic prosperity, job creation, investment attraction, and orderly development, and that this model will be applied in Mijas, following the example of other towns governed by the party such as Marbella, Torremolinos, Málaga, and Fuengirola.
