This surge among twenty-something mothers has been crucial for the total number of births in the province of Córdoba to grow by 0.19% compared to the same period last year. The data, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), indicates a shift in trend after years of continuous decline.
Between January and May 2026, 2,151 babies were born in the province. Of these, 572 were born to women aged 20 to 29, accounting for 26.6% of all registered births. Specifically, births to mothers aged 20-24 increased by 5.42% (175 births), while the rise was 12.15% for mothers aged 25-29 (397 births).
In contrast, other age groups saw decreases. Mothers aged 30-34, who remain the largest group with 748 births, experienced a 3.98% drop. Significant declines were also recorded in the 40-44 age bracket (-18.82%) and the 45-49 bracket (-35.29%). The 35-39 age group saw a slight increase of 1.97%, with 620 births.
This slight year-on-year increase breaks the downward trend that has characterized the province over the last decade. Comparing cumulative data up to May over the past 12 years, Córdoba has gone from registering 2,969 births in 2013 to 2,151 in 2026, a loss of 818 births, representing a 27.6% decrease.
The figure of 2,151 births accumulated by May 2026 places the data slightly above last year's total (2,147), disrupting the stabilization observed around 2,150-2,200 births in recent years.
