A woman from Córdoba has been exempted from nearly 20,000 euros in debts by the Commercial Court number 1, following a decade of economic difficulties and the loss of her family home.

The judicial decision, issued on February 4, brings an end to a long period of over-indebtedness for the woman, whose situation originated in 2010 with the acquisition of a mortgage under a community property regime with her husband. The economic crisis and unemployment in the construction sector exacerbated her situation, leading to the mortgage foreclosure of her home in Córdoba.
The Debt Relief Association has detailed that the family not only lost their home but also their accumulated savings, which were entirely dedicated to trying to meet the loan payments. With a minor child to support and no stable income, the vulnerability of the family unit significantly increased, resulting in judicial claims and inclusion in delinquency registries.

"Many families continue to bear the consequences of the mortgage crisis for years. The Second Chance Law offers a legal avenue for people who acted in good faith to free themselves from debts they can no longer assume."

The affected woman decided to avail herself of the Second Chance Law, and after her case was analyzed by the Debt Relief Association, the request was submitted to the Commercial Court number 1 of Córdoba. The resolution grants full exemption of 19,892.05 euros exclusively to the applicant, allowing her to legally disassociate herself from obligations she had been carrying for over a decade.
This exemption not only represents an economic cancellation but also the possibility of regaining peace of mind and stability, enabling the woman to reorganize her personal finances without pending burdens. Cases like this underscore the human impact of the Second Chance Law in situations where the consequences of the mortgage crisis have profoundly affected entire families for years.
