This cycle of literary encounters, coordinated by Raúl Alonso, aims to be a space for debate on issues affecting citizen coexistence, using literature as a driving force for critical and participatory thinking. The initiative stands out for its inclusive nature and its ability to create intergenerational meeting spaces.
The encounters are strategically scheduled in Secondary Education Institutes and municipal libraries, facilitating direct dialogue between authors and audiences of all ages. This generational diversity enriches debates and fosters a valuable exchange of perspectives among young students, adults, and seniors.
The cycle will feature seven interventions divided into three major thematic blocks. The first, ‘The Calming Word: Poetry and Inner Peace’, will focus on the therapeutic dimension of poetry. Poets Carlos Clementson, Rosa Romojaro, and Mercedes Castro will participate in this block on October 15th at the IES Tierno Galván in La Rambla, and on October 20th at the Centro Antonio Carpio in Montilla.
The second thematic block, ‘The Poem as Refuge: Poetry and Resilience’, will address poetry as a tool for peaceful resistance and personal reconstruction. Poets Marta Sanz, Mercedes Castro, and Antonio Varo will discuss this topic on October 14th at the IES Sacillis in Pedro Abad and on October 21st at the Municipal Library of Rute.
Finally, the third block, ‘Making Peace: Poetry and Reconciliation’, will explore poetic writing as an act of generosity capable of building bridges. Marta Merino, Jorge Riechmann, Antonio Varo, and Carlos Clementson will converse. These events will take place in Fuente Palmera on October 13th, at the Municipal Library of Iznájar on October 16th, and at the Municipal Library of Villanueva del Rey on October 22nd.
To leave a lasting impression from these sessions and promote reading, each thematic block will be accompanied by the publication of books featuring a selection of texts from the participating authors. Upon completion of the cycle, a commemorative box set of the three works will be published.
