The Municipal Urban Planning Department of Córdoba will give the green light next week to the approval of the tender for the works on the new access road to the Las Quemadas industrial estate. This project, with an investment of 3.4 million euros to be executed over two years, aims to directly connect the business area with the A-4 highway interchange. The measure addresses a long-standing demand to solve the saturation problems on the old N-IV road.
The project has been classified by the City Council as of "special urgency" due to the frequent traffic jams that occur on weekdays. Currently, vehicles from the industrial estate and the Rabanales Campus converge at a single point, creating significant traffic bottlenecks that affect Libia and Carlos III avenues, causing inconvenience to residents. The new access aims to create a smoother traffic alternative to decongest the entrance to the capital.
The works will be carried out in two phases. The first, which is the focus of the current contract, will concentrate on the section connecting the industrial estate to the future roundabout. It will include the complete redevelopment of the current Camino Pecuario de Las Quemadillas street, transforming its current precarious state into a fundamental logistical hub. One of the most complex tasks will be the undergrounding of the 66-kilovolt overhead power line. The new road will have a total width of 11 meters, with two main lanes of 3.5 meters each and two-meter outer shoulders, designed to handle intense and heavy traffic.
The project also includes the creation of a large-diameter roundabout at the intersection with Calle Camino, which will serve as the main connection hub and allow for agile distribution of vehicles. The route strictly adheres to current urban planning regulations, integrating perfectly into the future development planned for the sector, seeking a durable technical solution to prevent future mobility problems in the city.
The total public investment amounts to 3,431,318.39 euros (VAT included), planned between the fiscal years 2026 and 2027. Works on the ground are expected to begin in early September 2026, with an execution period of ten months, potentially allowing the road to be operational by mid-2027. The second phase will involve the thorough remodeling of the existing interchange on the A-4 highway at kilometer point 396, completing the communication network necessary to boost the business development of Las Quemadas.
