Simo Bouzaidi, who left a strong impression during his time at El Arcángel, is currently enjoying a successful period in Portugal. His team, Marítimo, is just one step away from returning to the top tier of Portuguese football, the Liga Portugal.
The winger was the protagonist of a crucial victory for Marítimo, scoring a penalty in added time against Portimonense, securing a narrow 1-0 win. This triumph has placed the Funchal-based club on the brink of celebration, with the possibility of sealing promotion this coming Saturday.
Currently, Simo's team leads Liga Portugal 2 with 60 points, holding a 10-point advantage over Académico Viseu (50 points) and 14 points over Torreense (46 points), their next opponent. With only five matchdays remaining and 15 points still in play, a draw in Saturday's match would be enough to mathematically secure promotion four rounds in advance.
For Simo Bouzaidi, who played for Córdoba CF for three seasons (between 2021 and 2024), his move to Portugal has been a resounding success. He has established himself as a key figure at Marítimo, contributing seven goals and five assists. Under contract until 2028, the player is close to achieving his goal of playing in the Portuguese top flight.
Developed in Sevilla's youth academy, Simo joined Córdoba CF in the summer of 2021, playing a fundamental role in their promotion to Primera Federación. Subsequently, he was an important player in the team's consolidation and subsequent promotion to Segunda División. After a brief stint at Eldense in 2024, where he could not prevent relegation, Simo decided to try his luck in Portugal. Marítimo signed him on a three-year contract, a decision that has paid off with his leadership and goals.
