The intervention, with an investment of 750,000 euros, has enabled the creation of an accessible path for pilgrims and visitors wishing to walk to the sanctuary. This project aims to offer a sustainable and natural solution for pedestrian traffic, especially during events such as the descent pilgrimage.
“"The six-kilometer stretch has been made accessible and safe, ensuring road traffic safety, and a pedestrian path has been built for everyone, promoting equal opportunities."
Improvements included widening the road in narrower sections to incorporate a three-meter sidewalk where possible, as well as sustainable management of the surrounding trees. The project completes work previously initiated by the Lucena City Council.
With this action, the access road to the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Araceli, which is provincially owned, now features a sidewalk from the Ronda Sur de Lucena to the entrance of the temple. This significantly enhances road safety and accessibility for the high number of pedestrians using this route, benefiting both those who use it for physical exercise and those with religious purposes.
