The Third Section of the Provincial Court of Córdoba is preparing to host next week the trial against a man facing serious charges. The Public Prosecutor's Office has submitted a provisional indictment requesting a total of nine years in prison for an attempted arson in a local venue in the capital, as well as for crimes of assault on authority and injuries.
The events, dating back to 2024, describe how the accused went to an establishment in Córdoba carrying two bottles of gasoline. Once inside, he proceeded to douse the people present with the fuel. Subsequently, he poured the contents of one of the bottles at the entrance of the premises, both inside and out, and threw a lit cigarette with the intention of starting a fire.
Despite failing in his initial attempt, the accused persisted, again approaching individuals who had already been alerted by employees and dousing them with the remaining gasoline from the second bottle. The prosecutor's brief details how he threw several lit cigarettes, and when the fuel did not ignite, he tried again using a lighter. The intervention of a customer at the establishment was crucial in subduing the attacker and preventing a greater tragedy. During his arrest, the two bottles of gasoline and two lighters were seized from him.
The tragedy was averted thanks to the intervention of a customer of the establishment, who managed to subdue the attacker.
The incident did not end with the accused being subdued at the scene. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, during his transfer to the police station, the accused maintained a violent attitude, refusing to exit the police vehicle and assaulting an officer, causing him an injury.
The Prosecutor's Office considers these acts to constitute three crimes: arson with danger to life and physical integrity, in the degree of attempt, for which seven years in prison are sought; and an assault on authority, for which one year in prison is requested, as well as for the crime of injuries. In addition to the prison sentence, the prosecutor requests that the accused be ordered to pay court costs and be prohibited from approaching the establishment within 500 meters, as well as being prohibited from communicating with the venue for a period of three years. The Public Prosecutor's Office has indicated that there are no modifying circumstances of criminal responsibility.
