The brotherhood of María Santísima de la Paz y Esperanza, one of Córdoba's most recognized, is over a year away from holding elections to choose its next head. The current scenario suggests the possibility of up to three candidacies, notably the potential return of Enrique Aguilar.
The current head, Julio Mifsut, is concluding his first term marked by adjustments to the procession's schedule, advancing its departure and arrival, and modifying the route to pass through Alfaros. Among other projects, progress has been made on the new processional script, with commissions to Curro Claros and Francisco Pérez Artés. Mifsut could seek re-election for a second four-year term.
“"We are more than a year away from the elections and the situation is constantly evolving."
Two other potential candidacies are emerging. One is from Enrique Aguilar, who previously served as head from 2014 to 2023, extending his term to complete the pontifical coronation process in October 2022. According to reports, Aguilar is preparing a team to run again and lead a new chapter for the brotherhood.
Against the backdrop of these potential candidacies are crucial aspects such as the organization of the costaleros (bearers) teams, the selection of capatazes (foremen), and the choice of music for the float of the Señor de la Humildad y Paciencia, a figure highly sought after by the city's costaleros. The brotherhood has recently changed its musical style, moving from the Health of Córdoba's brass band to the musical group Las Lágrimas de San Fernando.
The third potential path is represented by Alejandro Aguilar, a history graduate and author of the book on Fray Ricardo of Córdoba. He himself confirmed to this outlet that his proposal would focus on a 'third way' for the brotherhood. With two or three candidates, a competitive election is anticipated, unlike the last two occasions when there was only one aspirant.
