The municipal group Hacemos Córdoba will present a proposal to the City Council for a municipal strategy to prevent hate crimes and combat discrimination.
The municipal group Hacemos Córdoba will demand from the mayor, during the upcoming City Council Plenary session, the implementation of a municipal strategy aimed at preventing hate crimes and combating any form of discrimination. This request follows the "worrying" increase in such offenses within the city.
The left-wing coalition proposes that this strategy include an awareness and prevention campaign in collaboration with the educational community, associative movements, social groups, and law enforcement agencies. It also suggests reinforcing educational, cultural, and community activities in neighborhoods, alongside the development of a Municipal Plan for Coexistence and Prevention of Hate Crimes.
“"The City Council cannot look the other way while hate crimes increase. It is necessary to act with responsibility, planning, and commitment to guarantee coexistence in our city."
According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, 31 hate crimes were registered in Córdoba in 2025, an increase of 14 cases compared to the previous year. Of these, twelve were motivated by racism or xenophobia, an evolution the coalition considers particularly alarming.
“"When a person is attacked because of their origin, beliefs, sexual orientation, or any other personal condition, it is not an isolated incident: it is a problem for all of society. Therefore, it is essential to act decisively and responsibly from the public sector."
Hacemos Córdoba emphasizes that "Córdoba is a historically open and diverse city" and warns against normalizing these behaviors. They highlight the need to prevent these acts and strengthen coexistence in all social, educational, and cultural spheres, rather than merely reacting when they occur.
Consequently, the coalition urges the municipal government to implement this strategy "immediately" and to establish monitoring and coordination mechanisms with social entities and affected groups to detect risks and act preventively.
“"Against hate, more coexistence. Against discrimination, more rights. Córdoba must be a safe, diverse, and cohesive city."
