Access to the Nuestra Señora de la Fuensanta cemetery from the old N-IV road in Córdoba reopened this Thursday, four years after its collapse. The reopening to traffic, which also benefits residents of nearby urbanizations, follows a reconstruction that required an investment of half a million euros.
The access road had been closed since 2022, when the construction of a nearby waste management point caused damage that rendered it unusable. The mayor of Córdoba, José María Bellido, indicated that the slope supporting the road gave way during works carried out by the Junta de Andalucía, prompting a formal claims process by the City Council.
Bellido acknowledged that the project took time but stressed that, although the section is a municipal responsibility, they did not consider it reasonable for the cost to be borne by citizens. Therefore, they advanced the investment so that the access, vital for the cemetery and several urbanizations, could be reopened.
The mayor apologized to residents for the inconvenience and asked for their understanding, emphasizing that the interest of Córdoba's citizens was defended to ensure the cost did not fall on municipal taxes. The City Council hopes that the Junta de Andalucía will reimburse the 500,000 euros advanced.
The technical architect of the Municipal Urban Planning Department, Nicolás Castillo, detailed that approximately 130 linear meters of road have been repaired, with the addition of an embankment and a water outlet system to prevent future damage.
