The reserve team took a significant step towards staying in Group X of Tercera RFEF with a solid win in Ceuta. Diego Tristán's arrival on the Córdoba B bench brought a change in formation and a victory that moves the team away from the danger zone, with only four matchdays remaining in the regular season. The three points secured in Caballa territory place the team just one point from safety, demanding continued effort in this final stretch of the championship.
The incorporation of Diego Tristán, a renowned former player with a career at teams like Betis, Mallorca, Deportivo de La Coruña, Livorno, West Ham, and Cádiz, in addition to 15 matches with the Spanish national team, initially generated some doubts due to his previous coaching experience. However, the coach from La Algaba embraced the challenge of turning around the fortunes of a reserve team that had fallen into relegation spots on matchday 29 after a loss to Tomares, a direct rival.
In just a few days, Tristán achieved a remarkable transformation in Córdoba B. The match against Ceuta B, a ninth-placed team, presented a considerable challenge. Nevertheless, the Sevillian coach's approach was bold. The Cordovan reserve team, which won 0-1, could have even scored more goals if they had been more accurate in front of goal.
For this first match, Tristán opted for a three-man defense, comprising Ángel, Amin, and Miguelón, while Pablo and Marcelo Timorán occupied the wide positions. Both were positioned almost in the midfield, where Borja played as a pivot and Antras and Mario Peregrina as inside midfielders. Upfront, the offensive references were Viti and Lidueña, who scored the decisive goal in the final minutes of the game.
The risky tactical scheme worked effectively, and Córdoba B had clear opportunities to score more goals in Ceuta. Mario Peregrina missed a penalty in the first half, and Lidueña hit the post. Despite multiple attacking chances, a lack of precision prevented a larger scoreline. Ultimately, Lidueña's goal, the former Utrera player, secured a revitalizing victory for the reserve team.
Although the 0-1 result may seem narrow, Córdoba B showed a strong offensive presence with the new system, accumulating players in the opponent's half. While a defensive risk was taken by leaving only one defender against the opposing striker, the team adjusted well with Borja García dropping between the center-backs, thus forming a back four when the opponent attacked Alejandro Arévalo's area.
The 3-1-4-2 formation used by Diego Tristán represents a variation from the usual 4-3-3 employed by Gaspar Gálvez. This modification, which proved very effective in the debut of the coach from La Algaba, could be maintained in the next match this Sunday at the Ciudad Deportiva against Coria, a team already relegated to División de Honor. The white-and-greens will seek to add three more points to continue their climb in the standings. Subsequently, they will face Castilleja, host San Roque de Lepe, and conclude the season in Pozoblanco, with four key matches to secure permanence in Tercera RFEF.
