A landslide from the eaves of the old Regina Convent in Córdoba has caused debris to fall onto the street, prompting firefighters to intervene and cordon off the area to ensure public safety.

The incident occurred last Sunday, when pedestrians in the San Pedro neighborhood heard a loud noise. The debris fell in Regina Square, a very busy area, especially during the Patios de Córdoba festival, due to its proximity to popular patios such as Diego Méndez and Las Tazas Square.

"The debris fell very close to a foreign tourist who was walking through the square, which naturally startled him."

Eyewitnesses
Sources from the Córdoba City Council confirmed the landslide, which led to the intervention of firefighters from the Granadal station. The material fall occurred in the cloister area, not in the church, where restoration work is already underway. Firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Service observed fallen fragments and others at risk of detachment.
Firefighters used a ladder to inspect the affected area and removed loose mortar from the convent's roof. To prevent further issues, access to the building's interior has been sealed off. A technician from the Municipal Urban Planning Management of the Córdoba City Council, responsible for the restoration works, will conduct an inspection to assess the structure.
This landslide happens while the Córdoba City Council had already begun a restoration project for the old convent, which will be used for cultural and exhibition purposes. The works, which started in March 2025 with an investment of 1.2 million euros, aim to restore the church and preserve elements such as the Mudejar coffered ceiling, the choir, the spiral staircase, and the facades. Recent heavy rains may have contributed to the damage.
