The Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos in Córdoba is progressing in its conservation and improvement process with the reopening of its emblematic gardens and ponds. These works, which included waterproofing the ponds and renewing the pump and diffuser system for the fountains by Emacsa, along with garden maintenance by Parks and Gardens, restore these areas to their former glory.
This reopening adds to a series of significant renovations carried out over the last five years, including the new access gate from the Guadalquivir River area, the complete rehabilitation of the Torre de la Inquisición, the reactivation of the night light and sound show, and accessibility improvements to the complex, which is now 85% accessible.
Projects are still underway to achieve full excellence, such as the rehabilitation of the Hall of Mosaics and the Tower of Homage, both with deadlines expected this year. The work on the Jardín Alto, which will provide a new entrance to the Royal Stables, has also been awarded.
The visiting hours for the gardens, until September 15, will be the summer schedule: from 08:15 to 13:00, Tuesday to Sunday. Tickets, priced at seven euros, can be purchased at three designated points: in front of the Alcázar, the Campo Santo de los Mártires kiosk, and the Bullfighting Museum (cash only), as well as online via the City Council website.
The reactivation of the night show, which began on May 1 with the theme 'Navegantes' (Navigators), has been another recent highlight, attracting a large number of visitors. The new baroque gate on Avenida del Alcázar, inaugurated in March 2023, has also enhanced the visitor access experience.
