The city of Cordoba has intensified its relationship with Nuremberg, Germany, through an official visit by a delegation from the City Council's Culture Department. The meeting aims to strengthen the existing twinning between the two cities, which marked fifteen years in 2025, and to prepare for Cordoba's upcoming role as Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue next year.
Culture delegate Isabel Albás highlighted that this designation solidifies Cordoba as a heritage and cultural benchmark, emphasizing its connection with Nuremberg's vocation as a melting pot of civilizations and a model of respect for human rights. The German city is recognized for its diversity and coexistence.
Albás and the Coordinator of Cultural Policies and project commissioner, Juan Miguel Moreno Calderón, met with local government officials in Nuremberg. The objective is to design joint initiatives to ensure the success of the Capital of Culture year, fostering young creation, talent, and dialogue, thereby positioning Cordoba at the forefront of international urban diplomacy.
The twinning was further cemented with a performance by the flamenco group 'Paisaje con Figuras' (Landscape with Figures), which traveled from Cordoba. This show, inspired by the poetic world of Antonio Gala and flamenco tradition, was presented as part of the Summer Festival at the Spanish Center in Nuremberg.
Isabel Albás noted that the fusion of flamenco music, singing, and dance at the festival shared the stage with performances of Greek, Indian, and Chinese music, reflecting Nuremberg's multiculturalism and aligning with the spirit of dialogue that earned Cordoba the Mediterranean Capital designation for 2027.
Since the twinning agreement was signed, emphasis has been placed on cooperation, economic relations, and joint activities in education and culture, promoting exchange, particularly among young people. The delegate expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended to the Cordoban delegation, which also included Juan Gregorio Ramírez, a key initiator of the twinning.
