The province of Cordoba will benefit from nearly 66 million euros allocated to the modernization of irrigated land, a plan that will affect approximately 40,000 hectares and around 3,500 farmers.

The province of Cordoba will receive a significant portion of the funds allocated for the modernization of irrigated land in Andalusia. Specifically, four projects, one of them shared with the province of Seville, will mobilize a total of 65,914,750 euros for actions on nearly 40,000 hectares, benefiting around 3,500 irrigators.
These agreements are part of a pact made in 2025 between the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Regional Government of Andalusia, and the State Commercial Company for Agrarian Infrastructures (Seiasa). The objective is to optimize the use of European funds for irrigation modernization, enabling the execution of strategic projects in six Andalusian provinces.
The projects planned in Cordoba include new regulation infrastructures in Genil-Cabra and Fuente Palmera, as well as photovoltaic installations for the pumping station in the irrigation community of the Left Bank Canal of the Bembézar River. Network modernization will also take place on the Left Bank of the Genil, a project shared with Seville.
At the Andalusian level, other actions include photovoltaic installations in Huércal-Overa (Almería), network modernization in Jaén, Seville, and Granada, expansion of water treatment plants in Almería, and digitalization projects in Cádiz.
The actions encompass water regulation and storage infrastructures, photovoltaic solar plants, modernization of distribution networks, irrigation telecontrol and automation systems.
The Secretary of State for Agriculture and Food, Begoña García, highlighted that these investments will allow farming families to "irrigate better", "use less water and less energy", and "gain more margin".
To date, the Ministry has invested over 552 million euros in Andalusia in 47 modernization projects, benefiting more than 45,000 irrigators and modernizing nearly 200,000 hectares.
