The traditional festivity returns to the city after more than thirty years, combining religious procession with Cáritas' social commitment.

After more than thirty years, the Corpus Christi festivity is once again celebrated on its traditional day in Cordoba, reviving a custom that combines religious procession with social commitment.

The city of Cordoba is recovering this Thursday the traditional celebration of Corpus Christi, a festivity that had been moved to Sunday for over thirty-six years. This change, motivated by various political, economic, labor, and pastoral reasons, had left the city without one of its most emblematic Thursdays, alongside Holy Thursday and Ascension Day.
The return to the traditional date coincides with the Pope's trip to Spain, where he will preside over the Corpus Christi Mass on Sunday in Madrid. Following this afternoon's Eucharist at the Holy Cathedral Church, Jesus the Sacrament will parade through the streets of Cordoba. The faithful will be able to adore the Arfe monstrance, evoking the devotion of past generations.

"It returns its Thursday to Cordoba. This afternoon, after the Eucharist in the Holy Cathedral Church, Jesus the Sacrament will parade through our streets. We will adore the Arfe monstrance, as Pablo García Baena did on other Thursdays, when the 'trembling bells announce the Monstrance/in a soft tremor of glass and wheat. [...] and piety overturns its trays of flowers/before the erect ear that guards within its golds,/like a white petal of virginal flour,/ the pure heart of the Sacrament'."

Pablo García Baena · Poet
The Corpus Christi festival is intrinsically linked to the Day of Charity. On this occasion, Cáritas encourages commitment to building a more just, humane, and fraternal society, especially for the ninety thousand people in Cordoba living in poverty, as well as for those who are homeless, alone, ill, migrants, or excluded.
Under the slogan 'Choose to love, choose community,' the campaign highlights the importance of love, kindness, encounter, welcome, listening, and mutual care, recognizing the inalienable dignity of every person. Choosing community implies the decision and purpose to break with sterile individualistic selfishness and discover that the pain of others challenges us all. The aim is to overcome pessimism and inaction in the face of the magnitude of problems, remembering that no human suffering should be alien to us.
