The May Festivities in Córdoba are fast approaching, and the city is gearing up for one of its most iconic celebrations. A total of 53 entities and collectives have been admitted to participate in the traditional May Crosses Competition, a figure that is one more than the previous year's participation.
The crosses will be distributed across three main categories: 19 will be installed in the historic center, 22 in the modern district neighborhoods, and 12 in enclosed venues. The Córdoba City Council managed the selection process, excluding three entities for various reasons, while the cross of San José Obrero chose not to participate.
During the days of the event, visitors can enjoy a festive atmosphere characteristic of Cordoban culture, featuring sevillanas dancing, local gastronomy, and the traditional rebujito drink. Activities will run from 12:00 PM to 02:00 AM at all locations where the crosses will be exhibited.
Among the admitted entities in the Modern Districts are the Asociación Colega de Córdoba in Plaza de España, the Asociación Vecinal Cañero Nuevo on Calle Párroco Bartolomé Blanco, and the Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo del Amor on Avenida Fray Albino, opposite La Calahorra. Also participating are the Asociación Vecinal Huerta del Rey, the Asociación Vecinal Promisión in Plaza de los Ríos, and the Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo del Caído y Nuestra Señora del Mayor Dolor en su Soledad in Plaza Flor del Olivo, among others.
In the Historic Center, visitors can see the cross of the Hermandad del Vía Crucis del Santo Cristo de la Salud in Plaza de la Trinidad, the Asociación La Medina in Plaza Jerónimo Páez, and the Hermandad del Calvario in Plaza de las Cañas. Other participants include the Hermandad del Cristo de la Buena Muerte in Plaza San Ignacio de Loyola and the Hermandad de Nuestro Padre Jesús de los Reyes en su Entrada Triunfal Jerusalén y María Santísima de la Victoria in Plaza de San Agustín.
The Enclosed Venues will host crosses such as that of the Club de Matrimonios La Unión at Calle Bilbao, 1, the Hermandad del Santo Sepulcro in the Triunfo de San Rafael enclosure, and the Hermandad de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores in Plaza de Capuchinos. Also participating are Casa Sevilla, Acopinb, and Acpacys, among others.
