The province of Córdoba is gearing up for the Andalusian elections on May 17, a contest coinciding with the city's traditional 'Festive May' and set to determine the allocation of the twelve parliamentary seats at stake.

The election campaign will commence on May 1, amidst the celebration of the Cruces de Mayo, with election day coinciding with the conclusion of the Patios Contest. This festive calendar ensures a notable political presence within an atmosphere of high tourist influx and activity in the city.
Currently, the Popular Party holds a significant advantage in the province, with seven out of twelve parliamentary seats, secured with 45% of the votes in the 2022 elections. The PSOE holds three seats (24% of votes), while Vox and Por Andalucía each have one, with 12% and 10% of the votes, respectively.
The main challenge for the PP is to maintain these seven deputies, a complex task given the potential rise of Vox and the dynamics of electoral remainders. Preliminary polls suggest that the popular party could revalidate its absolute majority across Andalucía, although the number of seats obtained in Córdoba will be crucial for that overall sum.
Regarding candidacies, the PP has formed a list led by the party's secretary general in Andalucía, which includes two regional government counselors from Córdoba and the president of the Andalusian Parliament. Meanwhile, the formation of the PSOE list has been more turbulent, with the secretary general of the Cordovan socialists aspiring to be the number one, a wish ultimately not granted. The socialist candidacy will be headed by the mayor of a town in Guadiato, accompanied by the spokesperson in the Provincial Council and a former ministerial chief of staff. Vox has confirmed that its spokesperson in the Córdoba City Council will lead its list.
Key campaign issues will include the Andalusian Government's emergency management, the state of railway infrastructure, and, particularly for the PSOE, public healthcare, with mobilizations focusing on Primary Care and waiting lists. The water problem, especially the stalled connection of La Colada, and the electricity grid deficit in Guadiato, the capital, and the south of the province, will also be central points of the electoral debate.
