The Córdoba Lyrical Festival, organized by Tutto Puccini with support from Kutxabank, the Junta de Andalucía, and Taberna Almodóvar, aims to revitalize the Spanish lyrical scene. The program will take place in emblematic venues such as the Teatro Góngora, the Gran Teatro, and the Palacio de Viana. General admission tickets range from 14 to 48 euros, with early bird discounts available.
On September 19th, the Palacio de Viana will host the performance Callas. Homenaje a una Diva. This intimate production will trace the life and career of soprano María Callas, intertwining her personal and artistic dimensions. It will recall her loves, passions, disappointments, and the triumphs that established her as one of the world's most famous singers.
The program will feature prominent arias from operas such as Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Gianni Schicchi, and Norma, including her famous «Casta Diva». Soprano Guiomar Cantó will perform these pieces, contextualizing the diva's significance for opera enthusiasts and the general public, given her influence in film and media. Explanatory texts will be provided before each piece.
The performance format deviates from a conventional recital, focusing on the soprano as the sole protagonist. A minimalist stage design, featuring a Manila shawl, a piano, a music stand, a chair, and careful lighting, will create an immersive atmosphere.
The festival's program also includes three other major events: on September 18th at the Teatro Góngora, a special focus on Giacomo Puccini; on September 23rd at the Palacio de Viana, “El diablo arrepentido”, centered on the powerful voice of bass Rubén Amoretti; and on September 26th at the Gran Teatro, a grand lyrical gala tracing the historical evolution of opera.
