This operation, which began a month ago, was activated after a period of awareness and warnings to users about current regulations. The campaign seeks to reduce accident rates and ensure that PMVs comply with state regulations, which require civil liability insurance and registration with the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT).
Among the most common infractions are riding on sidewalks and pedestrian areas, as well as exceeding the speed limit of 25 Km/h. Officers have established checkpoints in various locations across the capital, especially in those with high traffic of these types of vehicles.

Of the 231 scooters seized, 85 have already been retrieved from the depots by their owners. Authorities have reminded the public that electric scooters are considered vehicles, and therefore, their drivers must comply with traffic laws, facing fines of up to 800 euros for non-compliance.

The Local Police has intensified sanctions after several weeks of warning users about the need to register their vehicles and have mandatory insurance, in response to the recent increase in road accidents involving PMVs.
