The Córdoba City Council has launched the procedure to recover one of the city's emblematic monuments, the Triunfo de San Rafael in the Plaza de los Aguayos, which is in a poor state of conservation. The Council has put out to tender for 14,900 euros (excluding VAT), amounting to 18,029 euros with taxes, the technical work required to diagnose its pathologies and guide its subsequent restoration.
The intervention will begin with a comprehensive study to determine the condition of the materials, the monument's history, and the factors causing its deterioration. Technicians will identify the type of stone, its execution and assembly, and conduct chemical and physical analyses for a detailed diagnosis. Research into the origin of raw materials and accelerated aging tests are also contemplated.
The historical-artistic study will reconstruct the ensemble's material history, previous interventions, and documented alterations, comparing it with other sculptural assets of similar characteristics. All this research will culminate in a concrete intervention proposal, which will establish the methodology, restoration criteria, a timeline, and a detailed budget for the future works.
The Triunfo in the Plaza de los Aguayos is protected as part of the General Catalogue of the Historical Heritage of Andalusia and is located within the Historical Ensemble of Córdoba. The monuments dedicated to the Custodian are spaces for reflection and devotion for the citizens, integrating into recognizable historical corners of the city.
The 18,029 euros cover the preliminary study phase, including diagnosis, intervention proposal, scientific and historical-artistic studies, health and safety, and waste management. The future restoration work is initially estimated to take five months, although its final duration will be determined in the project currently being drafted. The technical documentation must be supervised by the Provincial Heritage Commission.
