This ongoing initiative is a collaborative effort between the municipal company Sadeco and the Infrastructure Delegation, who divide tasks according to their respective responsibilities. The primary goal is fire prevention, especially critical where vegetation growth in unused plots and road margins can significantly increase danger.
Beyond safety, the campaign aims to improve urban health and aesthetics across the city's neighborhoods, as highlighted by Miguel Ruiz Madruga, president of Sadeco. He stressed the importance of these preventive maintenance efforts before summer, when climatic conditions heighten risks.
Sadeco will intervene in 338 municipal plots, covering an area of almost 1.5 million square meters, with approximately 300 scheduled actions. Work will involve mechanized clearing using tractors, followed by manual finishing with brush cutters, and subsequent removal of plant debris. Each team will consist of three operators, supported by a complementary contract of 99,000 euros for urgent interventions.
Meanwhile, the Infrastructure Delegation has activated a two-year contract worth 152,000 euros for cleaning, clearing, and pruning on municipal roads. Interventions include the N-IV, Los Morales road, Avenida del Brillante, Avenida de San José de Calasanz, Airport road (N-437), access to the Fuensanta cemetery, and the link between Avenida Carlos III and Avenida de Libia. Work will also cover municipal paths such as La Forja (already completed), Casillas, Carbonell, and Abejorrera, with ongoing efforts on the N-432 and Carrera del Caballo.
The campaign is planned by districts, coordinating with local councils. During April, efforts focus on the Centro and Sureste districts, then moving to Norte Sierra and Norte Centro. In May, interventions will shift to Poniente Norte, Poniente Sur, Levante, and Sur. Finally, in June and July, the campaign will conclude in peripheral neighborhoods and roads including Palma del Río, Villarrubia, Quemadillas, Alcolea, and Cerro Muriano. Ruiz Madruga highlighted the coordination between both entities as crucial for optimizing resources and improving efficiency.
