The main objective of this protocol is to improve, standardize, and streamline the intervention of Community Social Services in cases of school absenteeism. The initiative seeks to strengthen coordination with educational centers and place families at the center of the intervention process.
Irene Aguilera, delegate for Social Rights of the provincial institution and president of the IPBS, highlighted that the protocol will establish common guidelines for all students, aiming to promote school attendance and study the reasons behind absenteeism.
Aguilera recalled that during the 2024/2025 school year, more than 360 cases of absenteeism were attended, a figure that exceeded 390 in the 2025/2026 academic year. In over 80% of these interventions, attendance was normalized, underscoring the importance of maintaining and reinforcing these actions.
The IPBS has a network of 182 professionals from various disciplines, including social educators, psychologists, social workers, and medical staff, to address absenteeism from an interdisciplinary perspective, considering the family, social, and personal circumstances that may affect schooling.
The new protocol strengthens the ongoing coordination between the Community Social Services of the IPBS, the Territorial Delegation of Education of the Junta de Andalucía, and primary and secondary educational centers.
Diego Copé, delegate for Educational Development and Vocational Training and for University, Research and Innovation of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, added that the objectives include unifying intervention criteria, reducing response times, improving communication with schools, and reinforcing work with families.
Copé recalled that, according to data published by the Ministry of Education in 2025, Andalusia registered an early school leaving rate of 14.49%.
With this new protocol, the provincial institution takes another step in consolidating a faster, coordinated, homogeneous, and specialized response to school absenteeism, aiming not only to ensure a student returns to class but also to identify the reasons for their absences and address the underlying causes, supporting families and mobilizing necessary social and educational resources.
