The recent solidarity campaign organized by the Medina Azahara Food Bank of Cordoba, held in early June, concluded with results that exceeded initial expectations. A 50% increase in financial donations compared to the previous year was recorded, reaching 66,434 euros. Additionally, 12,535 kilograms of essential food items were collected.
These funds will enable the organization to purchase essential food supplies based on real-time needs, while the donated products will bolster the Food Bank's reserves for distribution to charitable entities throughout the province.
Despite initial concerns about the campaign's timing coinciding with major events such as the papal visit, university entrance exams, and the proximity of the Cordoba Fair, which complicated volunteer recruitment across over 120 participating establishments, the response from Cordoban society has been exemplary.
The collected food items have already begun to be distributed through associated social canteens and parishes. Thanks to the efforts of a broad network of volunteers, basic nutritional support is guaranteed for over 16,000 individuals at risk of social exclusion for the upcoming quarter.
It is worth noting that monetary donations are held at the establishments for the Food Bank to collect the most needed products at any given time. Indeed, items such as oil, biscuits, and rice, which are in demand by the beneficiaries, have already been requested.
